IT Seasons 2005: Russian IT firms pitch strengths at Denver meeting
Representatives from 11 Russian-based information technology companies were in Colorado on Thursday, pitching their strengths to local companies exploring possibilities of hiring overseas.
The Russian IT Seasons 2005 Conference, held at the Adam's Mark Hotel, sought to provide an alternative to India.
"We wanted to introduce the Russian software industry to Colorado," said Jim Reis, president and chief executive of the World Trade Center Denver. Nearly 30 Colorado companies attended.
"It's not just about outsourcing, but developing relationships or a joint partnership," Reis said.
Among the Russian and Eastern European companies giving presentations at the conference: ViTec Co., Intetics and Luxoft, which already is doing business with Arapahoe County-based Jeppesen Sanderson Inc., an aviation information products company.
"We do more than half our business outside the United States, so we need to look at who does what, what they're good at and what our needs are," said Roger Giudici, a senior manager for Jeppesen. "We're meeting other companies. We're a worldwide supplier of aviation technologies, so we look globally."
Russian executives noted that offshoring does not automatically result in savings for American companies.
"The conference really painted the right picture on outsourcing as something to explore, or as part of a long-term relationship which could lead to doing business in that country," Reis said. "The failures usually occur when U.S. companies see it as a quick way of saving a few bucks."
